Teacher Spotlight – Miss Victoria Kerr

Victoria Kerr, a graduate of the esteemed music conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, completed her Bachelor of Vocal Performance under the guidance of Dr. Mary Schiller. She has been involved in music, and theatre from a young age with the Knoxville Opera Company Children’s Chorus with productions of La bohème, Turandot, and Die Zauberflöte. She studied piano and voice since she was eight and thirteen. Throughout high school, she attended “All State Chorus” three years in a row. In addition, she was awarded with the “Highest Audition Score for Soprano” in her home state of Tennessee. Miss Kerr was selected for the “Governor’s School for the Arts” where she was awarded “Best Female Vocalist.”
Her operatic roles include Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro: cover of Servilia in La clemenza di Tito, Adina in scenes production of L’elisir d’amore, Spirit in Dido and Aeneas, 2nd Spirit in Die Zauberflöte, La libellule in L’enfant et les sortileges, and Sister Antoine in Dialogues of the Carmelites and Nedda from Pagliacci in an English scenes program during her time at Governor’s School for the Arts. Though her focus has shifted primarily to classical works, her musical theatre roles include Maria in The Sound of Music, Rapunzel in Into the Woods, Rizzo in Grease, Lady Thiang in The King and I.
Througout her years at CIM, Miss Kerr annually attended the “National Association of Teachers of Singing” in Ohio. She attended the “Summer Vocal Institute” with guest master class artist, Marilyn Horne, at the American Institute of Rome, where she also performed in a scenes production of Le nozze di Figaro as Susanna. In addition, Miss Kerr has frequently been requested to perform the “National Anthem” for multiple opening ceremonies, including many University of Tennessee, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Browns sporting events and local art festivals. As for choral experience, she has been a part of choruses or ensembles since age eight. She has performed and soloed in large-scale works such as the Mozart Coronation Mass No. 15 in C major, KV 317, Handel’s Messiah Part 1 and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the CIM orchestra at Severance Hall. Miss Kerr has attended master classes with Marilyn Horne, Matti Hiroven, Barbara Hocher, Sunny Joy Langton, Colenton Freeman, and Carole Farley. She has worked with conductors Francis Graffeo, Brian Salesky, Lucas Richman, and Harry Davidson.
Lastly, Miss Kerr has desire to share her crafts in music since studying vocal pedagogy and healthy methods of singing. She is delighted and honoured to have this opportunity at Angela Floyd Schools to instill a love for music that will impact students in a truly meaningful way.
