Costumes, Tights, and Shoes

Dance shoes and tights are meant to create the illusion of longer legs and aesthetically pleasing classical lines by mimicking the look of bare legs and feet. In order to foster more inclusivity, dance wear manufacturers and dance studios and companies alike have begun to tackle the old fashioned bias that all dancers should wear a singular shade of body and footwear. With more options of tights and dance shoes for all skin tones now available, we want to encourage all our dancers to select the best shade to maximize their leg line.

Keep in mind the tights worn for dance class and the recital MUST be dance tights. Dancers cannot wear pantyhose. The Color-Flow Convertible Tights sold through our online store come in many different shades. To make sure you find the best match for your dancer, you can see the office for examples of the different options. Please be sure that the tone of the tight matches the tone of your shoes. If you need assistance matching shoes to tights, please contact our office.

Tap Section: Encanto

All female tappers in Combo, Tap I, and Tap II should wear skin-tone tights and tap shoes. All female tappers in Intermediate and Advanced Tap should wear skin-tone tights and black tap shoes. Male tappers should wear black tap shoes regardless of level.

Jazz, Hip Hop, and Lyrical Section: Up

All female jazz and lyrical dancers should wear skin-tone tights and skin-tone slip on jazz oxfords or turners. All female hip hop dancers should wear skin-tone tights and black hip hop shoes. Male jazz and hip hop dancers should wear black socks and black jazz or hip hop shoes.

Ballet Section: Peter Pan

All female ballerinas should wear pink tights and pink ballet shoes, or if appropriate, a shade better matched to their skin tone. All male ballet dancers should wear black socks and black ballet shoes.

DISCLAIMER: The pictures below are what we have ordered and expect to receive in time for Picture Weeks. However, with the current condition of supply chains, we know that material and costumes could be delayed past the Picture Week date, in which case we will need to find another option. Please know that what is pictured here could change if supply and shipping becomes an issue.
